About

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

We are a volunteer non-profit charitable organization that seeks to promote literacy and learning in a valued partnership with the twenty Winnipeg Public Library branches.

Each year we sponsor several additional fundraising activities and over the past two decades the Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library has provided more than $371,000 to support library programming by:

  • co-sponsoring the popular annual Writer-in-Residence program which provides mentorship by an established and successful Manitoba author to emerging writers as well as more established ones.
  • playing an important role in funding the annual Spring Break program which promotes family friendly literacy activities for school age children.
  • providing items for many exciting library initiatives like equipment for literacy playgrounds, sewing machines for the ideaMill, prizes for summer reading contests, musical instruments for pre-school programs, Lego kits for the makerspace and tote bags as give-aways at library events.
